MACE RECOGNIZES HARGROVE TEAMMATES AND PROJECTS
02.3.2020The Mobile Area Council of Engineers (MACE) will present four Hargrove Engineers + Constructors Teammates with awards as part of their annual recognition program on January 30th. Roy Duncan, PE, was chosen as MACE’s Engineer of the Year, Ken Hubacker, PE was awarded Engineering Manager of the Year, Sharon Westerfield, PE, was awarded Chemical Engineer of the Year, and Brooke Osburn, PE, received the honor of being named Mechanical Engineer of the Year. These awards recognize those who have contributed significantly to the engineering profession and to the technological and economic development in the Mobile area, the region, the nation, and the world throughout their engineering career.
Roy R. Duncan, III, PE serves as the Vice President, Divisional Operations for Hargrove Engineers + Constructors. During his time at Hargrove, he has held various leadership positions, including managing over 300 project execution Teammates across all disciplines of engineering and office administration, developing engineering budget estimates, coordinating across disciplines and across offices, and maintaining project excellence on both small and major capital projects for clients in the power, chemical, pulp and paper, refining, and infrastructure industries. Roy’s roles at Hargrove have included Mobile Operations Leader, Mobile Engineering Leader, Communities of Practice Leader/Virtual Team Leader, Civil/Structural Department Leader, and Project Manager. Roy holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from Auburn University and is a certificated professional engineer in a number of states. He served as Chairman of the Construction Industry Institute’s Research Team RT326 on Virtual Teaming and currently serves on the Hargrove Board of Directors.
Ken Hubacker, PE, serves as Hargrove’s Chemical Projects Leader and Senior Project Manager/Project Director, managing Hargrove Mobile Office’s largest projects from engineering through commissioning. He has experience managing specialty chemicals expansions over $100MM TIC and leads project teams of over 75 EPCM resources for Hargrove, including communication between the Teams, ensuring alignment with the client, reporting progress, and managing all aspects of project execution from change management to value creation. Ken has over thirty-five years of progressive experience in branch management, engineering management, project management, discipline engineering management, and design engineering as well as field supervision. Ken serves as a champion for safety and quality and is consistently a mentor for upcoming project managers and engineering leaders. He is a highly requested project manager from our clients and helps oversee not only own projects, but all projects in the chemicals industry executed within the Hargrove Mobile office.
Sharon Westerfield, PE, currently serves as a Senior Process Engineer at Hargrove, providing support on several major projects including pressure and relief system evaluation and mitigation of identified deficiencies, as well as sizing and selection of relief systems for new equipment installations for several major refining and chemical clients. Sharon has also provided support on a gas treatment facility abandonment project, as well as wastewater tank installation for another refining client. She has also worked to implement safety instrumented systems, or SIS, for furnace applications. Sharon has over thirty-four years of experience in chemical engineering in a variety of industries including Oil Refining, Petrochemical, Specialty Chemical and Automotive.
Brooke Osburn, PE, serves as a Mechanical Engineer III at Hargrove Engineers + Constructors. She is a graduate of the University of South Alabama where she met her husband Cole. There she also served as Student Chapter President of ASHRAE and went on to serve 4 terms as Treasurer for the Mobile Chapter of ASHRAE. Brooke has been a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sister Organization since 2012. Her little, Kylie, will graduate high school in May. Brooke enjoys giving back to her community and has spent time serving on the Hargrove Adaptative Toy (HAT) Project team, volunteering at Camp Rap-a-Hope and Camp Smile, judging the BEST Robotics Competition, and mentoring students interested in the field of Engineering. She considered it a privilege to have the opportunity this summer to engage with the Distinguished Young Women interest in Engineering during the Women’s Forum held at the University of Mobile.
Hargrove was also recognized for their efforts in augmented reality and 4D construction, receiving the Industry Innovator Award. Hargrove utilizes Bentley’s Synchro Software’s 4D construction modeling solution for state-of-the-art visualization, construction planning, and construction progressing. At the core is a 4D engine (the 4th dimension being time/schedule) that allows project teams to simulate construction sequences/durations, enhance digital construction planning, and field execution.
